Wayne and Lydia Nelson have deep roots in this region, where wide-open prairie has long meant home. Today, that sense of home extends beyond their family — it extends to every guest who steps onto the property. What began as working land, with donkeys in the pasture and chickens wandering near the barns, has become something more: a place where celebration and stillness coexist.

The auditorium at Open Country Farm was designed to hold a room well — whether that room is filled with quiet attention, heartfelt vows, or music that deserves to be heard clearly.
With seating for up to 120 guests, the space feels intimate without ever feeling crowded. Sightlines are clean, acoustics are intentional, and our state-of-the-art sound system carries a single voice or a full band with clarity and warmth. Whether it’s a keynote speaker, a corporate presentation, or an evening concert, every word and every note lands exactly as it should.
The atmosphere is refined yet welcoming — polished enough for conferences and professional gatherings, yet grounded enough to feel personal and connected.
Convenient on-site men’s and women’s restrooms, each equipped with showers, allow for extended events, multi-day retreats, and seamless transitions between ceremony and celebration.
It is a space that adapts — quietly and confidently — to the tone of the moment.
Auditorium
The kitchen at Open Country Farm is more than a place to prepare food — it is where conversations linger, where laughter stretches long past dessert, and where gatherings naturally soften into something more personal.
Designed to comfortably host up to 60 guests, the space feels both communal and intimate — large enough to accommodate celebration, yet warm enough to feel connected.
Behind the scenes, the infrastructure is seamless. A fully equipped prep area with commercial-grade appliances, refrigeration, sinks, dishes, cutlery, and coffee service ensures caterers and hosts can move with ease and confidence. Audio and visual capabilities allow for presentations, slideshows, music, or storytelling without interruption.
The space is wonderfully adaptable.
By day it may host a shared meal or retreat session. By evening it can transform — into a cozy coffeehouse with live music, an indoor games lounge, or a relaxed reception space where guests gather in smaller, meaningful circles.

Outdoor ceremonies feel expansive yet deeply personal, and receptions can unfold beneath tented light or evening stars. When paired with our on-site cabins, celebrations extend beyond a single day — allowing couples and their closest family or friends to linger, wake slowly, and carry the experience into morning coffee and quiet reflection.
The grounds are designed to accommodate both intimacy and scale. Larger outdoor guest counts are possible without sacrificing atmosphere, and the prairie provides a sense of space that feels both private and unforgettable.
